Papering over the cracks

Article Abstract:

It is important to have the right temperament to restore works of art, according to restorer and artist Justin Hawkes. The work is extremely demanding, and requires great concentration. A restorer's work must be removable, and this is what deters some people from training as a restorer. He shows remarkable skills of precision and deference in his restoration work, while his own paintings are modernist abstracts on a very large scale. The paintings he restores are generally muted in colour, while his own paintings are very rich in colour.

when heck freezes over

Article Abstract:

Minnesota's Lake Country is famous for its ice fishing. There is big business in renting shacks to visiting fishermen who crave the bounty of pike, perch, and walleyes. Some areas, like Mille Lacs Lake host entire cities of ice fishing houses while other fishermen sit outside and brave the weather.
