A case for trans translation

Article Abstract:

Single protein monomers translated from two separate RNAs have been observed. The discovery has several implications on current views of how RNA is decoded into a protein sequence. A novel mechanism has been discovered wherein 10Sa RNA serves as both transfer RNA and messenger RNA. The 10Sa RNA is unique in that its 3' and 5' ends pair to form a partial structure similar to tRNA which is charged with alanine.

Duality in the genetic code

Article Abstract:

Researchers have described the discovery of a bacterium that has an unusually high number of proteins containing the two amino acids. They have highlighted the increasing awareness of the flexibility of the genetic code.
