Designing for the screen

Article Abstract:

Designing presentations directly for the screen is similar to designing for print but there are some fundamental differences. Designers should determine the resolution of the final display system so they do not design inappropriately. The screen should be used to lead the viewer's eyes and to create interest even though the screen shape is different than that of paper. Designers can use time to spread messages across screens, flash messages or even animate. They should be sure to maintain continuity so the viewer can follow easily. Choosing the color palette can be most problematic, and eight-bit indexed color is preferable for real-time presentations. Palettes should be chosen especially carefully in regard to transitions due to problems such as overlapping of images which may use different palettes. Designers should prefer intuitive interfaces and images rather than text and should try to keep viewers involved.

A complete human pelvis from the Middle Pleistocene of Spain

Article Abstract:

A collection of human pelvic material was recovered from Sima de los Huesos (SH). An almost entire male pelvis is broad, with a long superior pubic ramus, a long femoral neck and marked iliac flare. The body mass is estimated 95 kg or more. Based on cranial capacities of three specimens, the encaphalization quotients are much smaller than in Neanderthals and modern humans.
