A dwarf-eats-dwarf world

Article Abstract:

Observations of a detached astronomical binary system of small orbital separation, known as WD 0137-349, reveal that the system consists of a bigger white dwarf star and a smaller brown dwarf. The significant feature of the system is that the brown dwarf has survived the evolutionary process of the creation of the white dwarf, which has involved the brown dwarf to be engulfed by the red giant star formed from the white dwarf, and release it unharmed.

Survival of a brown dwarf after engulfment by a red giant star

Article Abstract:

The discovery of a brown dwarf in a short period orbit around a white dwarf is reported. The properties of both these stars in the binary could be directly observed, and a demonstration that the brown star was engulfed by a red giant star, but with little effect on it is presented.

Brown dwarf is a radio star

Article Abstract:

Issues are presented concerning the discovery of a brown dwarf star which emits strong radio waves. The causes of the radio emissions of the brown dwarf are a puzzle to astronomers.
