A nuclear 'fossil' of the mitochondrial D-loop and the origin of modern humans

Article Abstract:

The human nuclear mitochondrial insertion located on chromosome 11 represents a nuclear 'fossil' of the D-loop and provides a suitable method to determine the evolution of the mitochondrial genome. The insertion appears to have taken place subsequent to the divergence between humans and chimpanzees. Screening of human populations through primers specific for nuclear DNA sequences flanking the insertion indicates that 39% of the tested chromosomes contain the insertion.

Multiplex amplification of the mammoth mitochondrial genome and the evolution of Elephantidae

Article Abstract:

A multiplex polymerase chain reaction approach is developed that allows mitochondrial genome to be amplified from ancient DNA using just two initial amplification, which is accomplished, by using primer pairs. This makes it possible to sample the mitochondiral genomes of Pleistocene animals as widely as those of extant species.

Neanderthals in central Asia and Siberia

Article Abstract:

The determination of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) sequences from hominid remains found in Uzbekistan and in the Altai region of southern Siberia is reported. The fossils were found be from the European Neanderthal mtDNA variation and might have extended at least 2,000 km further to the east.
