Conserved cell and organelle division

Article Abstract:

Arabidopsis FtsZ may be a partial eukaryotic equivalent of Escherichia coli FtsZ in prokaryotes and so may be involved in organelle division. This homologue discovery, using an Escherichia coli FtsZ amino-acid probe, may be the start of developing an understanding of the chloroplast division machinery through organellar homologues of other prokaryotic genes.

A plastic organelle as a drug target in apicomplexan parasites

Article Abstract:

Research shows that Apicomplexa parasites stop replicating when the parasiticidal drug ciprofloxacin is applied. Experiments involving quantitative deoxyribonucleic acid hybridization and parasite-replication assay techniques demonstrate that Ciprofloxacin prevents genetic replication of the apicomplexan plastid in the tachyzoites organism Toxoplasma gondii.

A function for lipoxygenase in programmed organelle degradation

Article Abstract:

Membrane-enclosed organelles are lost during cell type differentiation. This is tightly regulated with regard to time of activation and specificity of membrane degradation. It is shown that 15-LOX integrates into organelle membranes enabling the release of protein from the lumen, and it shows the required specificity for organellar membranes.
