A spectacular summer for birds

Article Abstract:

The Endangered Species Act has helped to remove several native American birds from the endangered list. Among them are the peregrine falcon, the Aleutian Canada goose and the bald eagle. Some 6,000 peregrine falcons have been reintroduced to to the wild since 1974 and it will continue to be protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. The Aleutian Canada goose is believed to have a population of 32,000 birds, compared to a few hundred in the mid-1970's. There are now an estimated 5,748 pairs of bald eagles in the US, against just 417 nesting pairs in 1963.
