Article Abstract:

The gene transcription factor Bicoid in embryos of the fruitfly Drosophila melanogaster is tagged with enhanced green fluorescent protein (eGFP) in order to observe its gradient in live embryos. Researchers have shown a 10% change in Bicoid concentration and its gradient is sufficiently accurate to be used for specifying the position of the border of hunchback (hb) expression in the anterior domain.

The roles of intracellular protein-degradation pathways in neurodegeneration

Article Abstract:

The way in which the cells regulate the levels of aggregate prone proteins is described, concentrating on degradation pathways. The possibility of defective degradation causing certain forms of neurodegeneration is considered and the therapeutic strategies aimed at reducing the levels of toxic proteins by enhancing their degradation are discussed.

HDAC6 rescues neurodegeneration and provides an essential link between autography and the UPS

Article Abstract:

Study results suggest that impairment of autophagy associated with ageing or genetic variation might predispose to neurodegeneration and it is possible to intervene neurodegeneration by augmenting histone deacetylase 6 (HDAC6) to enhance autophagy.
