APOBEC3G cytidine deaminase inhibits retrotransposition of endogenous retroviruses

Article Abstract:

A different level of antiviral control, mediated by APOBEC3G, a member of the cytidine deaminase family that was previously shown to block HIV replication, is identified. It is seen that APOBEC3G markedly inhibits retrotransposition of intracisternal A-particle (IAP0 and MusD elements, and induces G-to-A hypermutations in their DNA copies.

Loss of cyclophilin D reveals a critical role for mitochondrial permeability transition in cell death

Article Abstract:

Ppif null mice are protected from ischaemia and reperfusion-induced cell death in vivo, whereas cyclophilin D-overexpressing mice shoe mitochondrial swelling and spontaneous death. Cyclophilin D and the mitochondrial permeability transition are required for mediating Ca (super 2+)-and oxidative damage-induced cell death.

Cyclophilin A retrotransposition into TRIM5 explains owl monkey resistance to HIV-1

Article Abstract:

Post-entry restrictions of HIV-1 infection are exhibited only among owl monkeys of the new world primates. A search for additional RNAi targets unearthed TRIMCyp, an RNAi-response messenger RNA encoding a TRIM5-CypA fusion protein.
