Affinities of 'hyopsodontids' to elephant shrew and a Holarctic origin of Afrotheria

Article Abstract:

Masroscelidean are small-bodied, cursorial band saltatorial, insectivorous and omnivores placental mammals represented by at least extent African species classified in four genera. Fossil postcrania that provide evidence for a close relationship between North American Palaeocene-Eocene apheliscine, 'hyopsodontid' 'condylarths' and extent Macroscelidea are described.

Migration of a late cretaceous fish

Article Abstract:

The ontogenetic history of a Maastrichtian-age fish, Vorhisia vulpes, is reconstructed by using the carbon, oxygen and strontium isotope ratios of four aragonite otoliths. These fishes spawned in brackish water and during their first year migrated to open marine waters of the Western Interior Seaway, where they remained for three years, presumably to spawn and die.

Human footprints in Pleistocene volcanic ash

Article Abstract:

Human footprints in volcanic ash in southern Italy dated to 385,000-325,000 years ago may be the oldest human footprints yet found. The prints indicate a fully bipedal hominid, perhaps 1.5 meters tall.
