Agencies join forces to share data

Article Abstract:

The government of the United States is deliberating a huge plan to store almost all scientific data generated by federal agencies in publicly accessible digital repositories. The plan, to be drafted by an Interagency Working Group on Digital Data (IWGDD), aims to enable scientists, access data from any federal agency and integrate it into their studies.

The Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) releases the impact factor of each journal published, which is taken by some administrators as a measure of the typical citation rate for the journal. The impact factor helps to assess the scientific quality of nations and institutions, and even to judge individuals.
