Community split on Peronist reform effort

Article Abstract:

Many scientists in Argentina are hostile towards the party and government of President Carlos Menem, although the neglect of research ended in 1996 and a new programme has been ongoing to revive the country's scientific tradition. Science has been promoted via the new National Agency for the Promotion of Science and Technology. However, although there is money to train scientists, there is a lack of money to support them, although the Agency has raised the ceiling on grants it will deliver.
