An ailing agency

Article Abstract:

Some people who respect and rely on the US federal agency Disease Control and Prevention (CSC), which is dedicated to improving all aspects of public health in the US are expressing concerns at the very roots of the agency itself. They are concerned that bureaucracy and mismanagement are hampering the good science at the agency and believe that the Bush administration's efforts to exert political influence over the CDC are worsening the problems faced by the agency.

Public health vaccination policies for containing an anthrax outbreak

Article Abstract:

The concern about the public health policies was raised for containing an anthrax outbreak where a probability model was developed to predict the impact of different anthrax antibiotic and vaccination policies. The studies show that a mass pre-exposure vaccination programme for the general population would require high population coverage rates to increase prevention rates from that achieved with targeted and rapid post-exposure prophylaxis programmes.
