An ecological and economic assessment of the nontimber forest product gaharu wood in Gunung Palung National Park, West Kalimantan, Indonesia

Article Abstract:

The demographic effect and economic returns of harvesting aromatic gaharu wood from fungus infected trees of Aquilaria malaccensis Lam. at Gunung Palun National Park, Indonesia is presented in order to evaluate the management potential of gaharu wood. It is suggested that returns per unit area could be improved substantially, by implementing unknown silvicultural methods to increase tree densities, increase the proportion of trees that produce gaharu wood, and shorten the time interval between successive harvests.

Mexico's community-managed forests as a global model for sustainable landskapes

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on community-managed forests in Mexico. The authors report that the new studies suggest that good forest management and biodiversity protection result from the actions of the community forest enterprises.
