A Silurian sea spider

Article Abstract:

A new pycnogonid is described, which is the oldest adult sea spider by ~ 35 Myr and the most completely known fossil species. Cladistic analyses place the new species near the base of the pcynogonid crown group, implying that the latter had arisen by the Silurian period.

Silurian brachiopods with soft-tissue preservation

Article Abstract:

Brachiopods are abundant shelly fossils, but the direct fossil record of their soft parts was confined to a single pyritized trace possibly representing a lopophore. Anatomical knowledge of extinct rhynchonellliformeans relies on analogies to extinct species, while these analogies are untested for stem group clades.
