Analytical chemistry: Sense and versatility
Article Abstract:
A multitasking sensor that binds molecules to ions is developed in order to measure the concentrations of several metal ions. The sensor has four different techniques for distinguishing between ions and the common thread is that they detect many chemical targets, leading to increased efficiency in applications as diverse as cell physiology and environmental monitoring of industrial waste.

Control of four stereocentres in a triple cascade organocatalytic reaction
Article Abstract:
The development of an asymmetric organocatalytic triple cascade reaction for the synthesis of tetra-substituted cyclohexene carbaldehydes is reported. This three-component domino reaction follows a catalyzed Michael/Michael/aldol condensation sequence giving products of good to moderate yield (25 - 58 per cent).

A microsensor for trinitroluene vapour
Article Abstract:
The deflagration of trinitrotoluene (TNT) in small-localized explosion on an uncoated piezoresistive microcantilever is demonstrated. Microcantilevers with specific coatings can be used for chemical detection.
