Annexins taken to task

Article Abstract:

Crystallographic analysis has helped researchers determine the functions of the proteins annexins. A novel hexameric structure of annexin XII reveals its membrane interactions. Researchers suggest that annexins are ion channels and vesicle fusogens. This contradicts the traditional thinking on the manner in which annexins interact with membranes.

Tuned for longer life

Article Abstract:

The control of an intriguing protein named Sir2 (silent information regulator 2) on the life span and reproductive capacity of various laboratory organisms is investigated. The effect of Pnc1, an enzyme found in yeast and metabolic energy on lifespan and working of Sir2 is analyzed.
