Antagonizing the neighbors

Article Abstract:

The data that supports the proposition that reversible phosphorylation of the amino acids serine in the 'tail' regions of histones could antagonize the binding of regulatory proteins to neighboring methylated lysine amino acids, creating a binary control switch is presented. Among the many histone modifications, methylation of lysines and phosphorylation of serines and theronines have attracted the much attention.

The interstellar N2 abundance towards HD 124314 from far-ultraviolet observations:

Article Abstract:

The abundance of interstellar molecular nitrogen (N2) together with millimetre wavelength observations of interstellar N2H(super +) in dense molecular clouds predict that N2 should be the most abundant nitrogen bearing molecule in the interstellar medium. The detection of interstellar N2 at far-ultraviolet wavelengths towards the moderately reddened star HD 124314 in the constellation of Centaurus is described.

Virtual screening of chemical libraries

Article Abstract:

Virtual screening uses computer-based methods to discover new ligands on the basis of biological structures. The recent successes in predicting new ligand and their receptor-bound structures and better rates of ligand discovery compared to empirical screening have reigned their interest in virtual screening which is now used in drug discovery.
