Antibiotic resistance found in wild rodents

Article Abstract:

It has been established that antibiotic resistance exists in populations of wild rodents that have not been exposed to antibiotics. This suggests that approaches to controlling resistance to antibiotics based on the assumption that resistance is maintained in bacterial populations as a result of exposure to antibiotics could be misguided. There is currently no information about the origin of the resistance in wild rodents and the selection mechanisms by which a high prevalence of resistance is maintained.

Predator-prey cycles with period shifts between two- and three-species systems

Article Abstract:

A simple predator-prey system, and a three-species system including predator and prey, exhibit cyclic population dynamic patterns. The cycle period shifts from one to several host generation lengths when the species changes from two to three. The host-pathogen and host-parasitoid systems exhibit patterns of endogenous host generation-length cycles. Multi-generation cycles exist in the host and parasitoid populations of a three species system comprising of host-pathogen-parasitoid populations.

Invasion sequence affects predator-prey dynamics in a multi-species interaction

Article Abstract:

The dynamic trajectories of both a predator and its prey within replicated three-species systems are influenced by the sequence in which it is constructed. Alternative dynamic patterns are possible for one construction-sequence.
