E. Carrington Boggan dead at 48

Article Abstract:

E. Carrington Boggan, a prominent fighter for equal rights for gay men and lesbians, died of AIDS in Los Angeles, CA, in Jan, 1992, at age 48. Boggan was chairman of the ABA's Individual Rights and Responsibilities Section from 1979 to 1980 and established the Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund, an organization seeking to promote gay rights. Boggan's legal skills were instrumental in several successful cases that strengthened legal protections for gays and lesbians. The vigor with which Boggan led the struggle for equality made him irreplaceable.
