States of play

Article Abstract:

Quantum protocols are being created by a group of researchers at HP Labs, the research arm of Hewlett-Packard in Palo Alto, helping to bridge the gap between theory and practice in both game theory and quantum information processing. Quantum approach beats a classical strategy in a simple game where two players flip a coin because the laws of quantum mechanics allow the coin to remain in a state that is a combination of heads-up and tails-up at the same time.

Autophagy and cancer

Article Abstract:

The degradation of redundant or faulty cell components is commonly known as autophagy and normally occurs as an effect of cell's everyday activities and as a reaction to the stressful stimuli like starvation, which can also lead to cancer and other health hazards in humans. The decision to turn autophagy on or off is yet to be taken, as in addition to the development of cancer, it also helps in the treatment of cancer by regulating the cell growth negatively.
