Women working mainly in the field of science face factors such as marriages, lack of adequate childcare, and husband's geographical moves that adversely affect their careers. The Department of Science and Technology has taken one move by initiating a scheme to offer fellowships to women whose careers were interrupted by their husband's geographical moves.

The success of Pradeep Seth, a microbiologist at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi to manufacture the HIV vaccine for phases I human trials are presented. Seth's vaccine research was funded by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), part of the science ministry and recommended by a new committee of the health ministry.
