Basin-scale ocean circulation from combined altimetric, tomographic and model data

Article Abstract:

Modelling alone cannot provide a comprehensive understanding of ocean circulation and its transport properties. High-quality acoustic-tomographic and altimetric data can be used to test the combined power of satellite altimetry and acoustic tomography for estimating oceanic flows. A detailed spatio-temporal record of flow over basin-scale volumes of fluid can be recovered from acoustic-tomographic and altimetric data using state-of-the-art numerical models.

Moon, tides and climate

Article Abstract:

Observational research suggests that much of the energy of ocean tides is dispersed in the deep ocean, rather than by friction in the shallow coastal seas as previously believed.
