The generation of martian floods by the melting of ground ice above dykes

Article Abstract:

Intrusive and extrusive volcanism usually occur together on Earth, and other planets are likely to see similar actions. Depressions linked to regional dykes on Venus produce a clearly visible surface roughness,a nd it has been proposed by Mege and Masson that similar features on Mars are due to dyke intrusion. It is proposed that the the faults are a surface expression of dykes, rather than of large-scale tectonic movements, using a numerical model. Such dykes may provide a heat source that will melt ground ice.

Diapir-induced reorientation of Saturn's moon Enceladus

Article Abstract:

The reorientation of Saturn's moon Enceladus's rotation axis because of the presence of a low-density diapir is used to explain the current polar location of the hotspot. The results have predicted that the distribution of impact craters on the surface does not show the usual leading hemisphere-trailing hemisphere asymmetry and that a low-density diapir yields a potentially observable negative gravity anomaly.

Tectonics and water on Europa

Article Abstract:

It is suggested that some surface features of Europa, one of Jupiter's moons, are created by soft ice that is heated by viscous dissipation of tidal motion along faults. It is possible that transient pockets of liquid water or brine arise at shallow depths in the crust.
