Behavioral responses of bats to operating wind turbines

Article Abstract:

Thermal infrared (TIR) cameras are used for assessing the flight behavior of bats at wind turbines and also for observing the nocturnal behavior of bats and birds independently of supplemental light sources. The blade rotational speed is a negative predictor of collisions with turbine blades, indicating that bats might be at higher risk of fatality on nights with low wind speeds.

Patterns of bat fatalities at wind energy facilities in North America

Article Abstract:

The patterns of bat fatalities at the wind energy facilities in the U.S. and Canadian province are studied. The studies have helped the biologists to understand the unique patterns of bat fatality, biases and limitations of the existing efforts and also in developing mitigation strategies for minimizing or eliminating bat fatality at wind facilities.

Assessing impacts of wind-energy development on nocturnally active birds and bats: a guidance document

Article Abstract:

A study is made to assess potential impacts on residual and migratory species, determine the causes of bird and bat fatalities and to develop methods for reducing risks to bird and bat population and their habitats.
