Behaviour of specialist species in habitat corridors: arboreal dormice avoid corridor gaps

Article Abstract:

Experiments were conducted to examine the effects of gaps in habitat elements and presence of food resources on the movement of an arboreal habitat specialist specie, the dormouse. Results showed that movements along habitat corridors are constrained by corridor gaps, but are encouraged by the lack of food. Dormice were also found to be capable of moving rapidly through noncorridor habitat despite being strongly arboreal.
