Bird response to clear cutting in Missouri Ozark forests

Article Abstract:

The effects of clear cutting on breeding bird density in Missouri Ozark forests were studied. Results concluded that clear cut sizes between 8 ha and 13 ha should be kept to reduce negative effects on ovenbirds by cutting as well as a 7year offset between the timing of clear cutting and timber stand improvement to reduce their combined effects.

Effects of Forest Management on Amphibians and Reptiles in Missouri Ozark Forests

Article Abstract:

Even-aged and uneven-aged forest management practices are compared and contrasted for their impact on reptile and amphibian populations, with no-harvest management used as a control. Findings suggest that biodiversity maintenance and forest management may be compatible when disturbance is limited to smaller proportions of landscapes.

Effects of experimental forest management on density and nesting success of bird species in Missouri Ozark forests

Article Abstract:

Research indicates that a mixed timber management strategy will optimize bird conservation strategies in Missouri's Ozark forest region. Findings were drawn from 5 years of pre-logging and 3 years of post-logging data.
