Blastocyst implantation depends on maternal expression of leukaemia inhibitory factor

Article Abstract:

Secretion of leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF) is required for the successful implantation of the blastocyst in the uterine wall in mice. The absence of LIF, a cytokine secreted by the uterine endometrial glands in the fourth day of pregnancy, prevented pregnancy by not allowing the blastocysts to implant themselves and develop as embryos. This newly discovered role of LIF in reproduction, if found to apply to mammalian pregnancy in general, may lead to new methods of contraception and of improving in vitro fertilization.

Accelerated ageing in mice deficient in Zmpste24 protease is linked to p53 signaling activation

Article Abstract:

The transcriptional alterations occurring in tissues from Zmpste24-deficient mice are analyzed. It is demonstrated that Zmpste24 deficiency elicits a stress signaling pathway that is evidenced by a marked upregulation of p53 target genes, and accompanied by a senescence phenotype at the cellular level and accelerated ageing at the organismal level.

The BMP antagonist noggin regulates cranial suture fusion

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to examine the factors such as BMPs, which are known to promote bone formation in mouse. In gene chip analysis, abundant BMPs in both fusing and patent cranial sutures are retrieved.
