Californian grad students vote to unionize

Article Abstract:

There has been growing concern among graduate students at the University of California's campuses in Los Angeles and Berkeley about poor working conditions. This has prompted them to vote strongly in favour of union representation. Elections at the university's other six campuses are due to be completed shortly. Graduate students at the university have been campaigning since the mid-1980s for union recognition for teaching assistants, who now play a very important role in academic education.
