Cellular defenses destroyed

Article Abstract:

Calcium imparts strength to bones and serves as a messenger in myriad cellular processes and if the blood flow is not proper then it can lead to the death of the nerve cells. It is indicated that calcium is very much essential for the bones and it works as a myriad in cellular processes, but if the same accumulates in the neurons, it can cause major problems.

Gsk-3alpha regulates production of Alzheimer's disease amyloid-beta peptides

Article Abstract:

Results demonstrate that glycogen synhase kinase-3beta (GSK-3alpha) processes amyloid precursor protein from which amyloid-beta peptides are derived. Data indicate that inhibition of GSK-3alpha by lithium leads to a reduction in the formation of amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles, characteristics of Alzheimer's disease.

Ibuprofen-like activity in extra-virgin olive oil

Article Abstract:

The agents in extra-virgin olive oil responsible for throat irritation is thought to be the dialdehydic form of (-)oleocanthal. Different findings raise the possibility that long-term consumption of oleocanthal might help protect against some diseases by virtue of its ibuprofen-like COX-inhibiting activity.
