Characteristics of foraging trees selected by pileated woodpeckers in New Brunswick

Article Abstract:

Little is known about the foraging habitat of the pileated woodpecker in eastern North America. A new study investigates the foraging substrates used by pileated woodpeckers in Fundy National Park, New Brunswick, Canada, to assess their use of coniferous and deciduous trees and to determine whether differences exist in their foraging behaviour between contiguous forest and fragmented forest. The study shows that pileated woodpeckers use both deciduous and coniferous trees for foraging, but the most frequently used trees are balsam fir and red spruce.

Postfledging survival of Laysan ducks

Article Abstract:

Mark-recapture method was used to study the survival of fledged juveniles and adult Laysan ducks postfledgling. Survival as a random effect and due to variation of Laysan duck density was studied and change in trends of density did not have any effect on their survival.
