Estimation of demographic parameters from live-encounter data: A summary review

Article Abstract:

The seven major classes of mark-recapture models that investigators can use to estimate survival and other parameters from live-encounter data which is necessary for research questions in wildlife management, conservation and evolutions ecology are analyzed. Advanced mark-recapture models are likely to remain an important source of information as they can estimate apparent survival with greater precision and less bias offering estimates of other useful demographic parameters.

Off-highway vehicle trail impacts on breeding songbirds in northeastern California

Article Abstract:

A three-year study assessing effects of active off-highway vehicle (OHV) trails on songbird abundance and nesting success at a publicly developed and maintained OHV recreation area is presented. Results revealed that areas within 100 m of OHV trails might provide reduced-quality habitat to nesting songbirds.

Optimizing radio retention and minimizing radio impacts in a field study of upland sandpipers

Article Abstract:

The field study of upland sandpipers with the method of radio attachment shows a compromise exchange between optimization of radio retension and minimizing demographical impacts with the glue technique.
