Congress and Bush set to clash on stem cells again

Article Abstract:

The United States Congress is all set to pass a bill for the second time to expand researchers' access to human embryonic stem-cell lines but the U.S. President George W. Bush who vetoed an identical bill is likely to veto the bill again. The bill that will be reintroduced by the Democrats is called the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act of 2007 and the supporters are hoping to make the bill more politically palatable to hesitant senators and more difficult for Bush to veto.

Treading water

Article Abstract:

The exploration and management of the oceans is a widely neglected function of government in the United States, but the first review of ocean policy in 35 years provides a rare opportunity to overhaul it. However, critics argued that its central proposal to create a National Ocean Council at the White House is insufficient to reconcile the conflicting policies.
