A biologist's perspective on the role of sustainable harvest in conservation

Article Abstract:

The concept of sustainable harvest has been too often equated with effective conservation, but the former is often opposed to the latter. Studies do not support long-term harvests of natural resources, and harvest systems are only narrowly applicable. Without an objective, holistic view of harvest techniques, old-growth ecosystems and species will continue to move toward extinction.

Population growth in the United States and Canada: a role for scientists

Article Abstract:

The US and Canada need to reduce immigration in order to reduce the growth of their populations. It is unrealistic to expect other nations to reduce their population growth rates when the US and Canada refuse to do so. North Americans consume more natural resources per capita than individuals in poorer countries.
