Continuous c-fos expression precedes programmed cell death in vivo

Article Abstract:

The relationship between c-fos expression and excicotoxic cell death is demonstrated using a fos-lacZ transgenic mouse. Temporal and spatial patterns were traced several hours after the injection of kainic acid into the brains of the animals. Results show that the pattern of fos-lacZ appearance coincides with the rate of neurotoxicity. The decreased number of beta-galactosidase-positive cells in the hippocampus after 10 days indicate that cell death occurs after the reinduction of fos-lacZ in the limbic system.

Engulfment genes cooperate with ced-3 to promote cell death in Caenorhabditis elegans

Article Abstract:

Research describing apoptosis in the nematode caenorhabditis elegans is presented. In particular it is shown that cell survival may be enhanced by blocking engulfment gene activity.
