The court case over the safety data on a drug and its manufacture has highlighted the conflict between public and private interests in the confidentiality of documents involved in lawsuits. The legislation that prevents lawyers from signing confidentiality agreements going against public safety has failed due to the pressure from corporate lobby groups, including those representing the pharmaceutical industry.
