Detection of nonlinear dynamics in short, noisy time series

Article Abstract:

A computational procedure enables accurate detection of nonlinear dynamics in a short, noisy time series. The method compares the prediction power of nonlinear and linear models of the Volterra-Weiner form. Highly sensitive and robust statistical detection of deterministic dynamics in an experimental time series is possible. The detection is possible for chaotic dynamics in either continuous or discrete short time series. Heavy contamination with noise and the presence of strong periodicity do not affect the results.

Nanotubes go ballistic

Article Abstract:

Researchers have reported on a coherent molecular electronic device in which carbon nanotubes act as coherent electron waveguides. It is shown that the propagation of electrons in the tubes is ballistic over distances of thousands of atoms.

Noisy times ahead

Article Abstract:

Issues are presented concerning the development of a theory which involves the properties of electron movements in nanometre-scale circuits. The importance of this theory to quantum computing is discussed.
