The many faces of adaptation

Article Abstract:

It has been established that different elements of a sensory neuron's response adapt independently on different timescales. It is speculated that all the observed timescales could be mapped to different biophysical properties of sodium channels.

Odour-plume dynamics influence the brain's olfactory code

Article Abstract:

Research is presented concerning the spike patterns which were recorded from the antennal-lobe output neurons of moths stimulated with intermittent odour. The timing of output neuron activity is discussed.

Neurogenesis in the adult is involved in the formation of trace memories

Article Abstract:

Research is presented concerning the major decrease which occurs in the number of neurons which are newly generated in the adult rat by the hippocampus. The influence of associative learning is discussed.
