Sexual experience can affect use of public information in mate choice

Article Abstract:

Female Japanese quail show an increased preference both for males that they have seen mate with another female and for the less aggressive of a pair of males that they have watched interact aggressively. The effects of females' prior sexual experience on their use of such public information when choosing a partner are examined.

Socially acquired information reduces Norway rats' latencies to find food

Article Abstract:

Studies show that Norway rats, Rattus norvegicus, use socially acquired information when seeking and choosing food. A series of experiments seeks to determine whether Norway rats can use information from conspecifics to discover when food becomes available. Results show that naive members of the colony are able to determine when food becomes available by interacting with colony members which have discovered and eaten that food.
