Early motor activity drives spindle bursts in the developing somatosensory cortex

Article Abstract:

The study reported that in the intact somatosensory cortex of the newborn rat in vivo, spatially confined spindle bursts represent the first and only organized network pattern. It concluded that the interaction between movement-triggered sensory feedback signals and self-organized spindle oscillation shaped the formation of cortical connections required for senorimotor coordination.

Neurons and navigation

Article Abstract:

The position of integration of the environment in the brain of an animal is examined. The dorsocaudal medial region of the entorhinal cortex (dMEC) is the region for integration of the information regarding position, distance and direction.

Organization of cell assemblies in the hippocampus

Article Abstract:

The authors have investigated hippocampal pyramidal cells. They report that the spike times of these cells can be predicted via the use of spike times of simultaneously recorded neurons in addition to the animal location in space.
