Search hopes to detect laser signals from extraterrestrial life

Article Abstract:

Researchers from Harvard University and the University of California are seeking flashes of laser light from the heavens emitted by alien civilizations. The Harvard group found some intriguing signals from the 1,000 stars scanned in October, which failed to repeat. The Berkeley group will follow a similar approach, connecting a laser detector to a telescope at the Leuschner Observatory to observe 2,500 stars.

Giant radio telescope will boost search for extraterrestrial life

Article Abstract:

There are plans to build a new radio telescope consisting of an array of 500 to 1,000 small satellite dishes have a combined collecting area of 10,000 square metres. It would be the largest telescope devoted mainly to the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI). The one hectare telescope (1hT) will be a prototype for the Square Kilometer Array (SKA), and is may be built by 2004.
