Ecological consequences of recent climate change

Article Abstract:

Ecological consequences of recent climate change are discussed in this review article, which states that the Earth's climate has warmed by 0.5 degree centigrade in the most recent century and that effects of a changing climate on ecological systems can be detected. As the climate changes more and interacts with such stressors as habitat fragmentation, more threats will appear. Studies show the need for current conservation efforts to take climate change into account.

Resistance and resilience to coral bleaching: implications for coral reef conservation and management

Article Abstract:

This review addresses coral mortality due to environmental causes such as El Nino, climate change and measures to be taken to prevent coral bleaching and maximize conservation of global coral reef biodiversity. Authors discuss management of marine protected areas by creating environmental conditions that boost resistance and resilience during and after bleaching events.

Conservation of coral reefs after the 1998 global bleaching event

Article Abstract:

The study shows that large-scale bleaching of the coral reefs is triggered by sea surface temperature anomalies. The article discusses the distribution and timing of coral bleaching in the Indian Ocean, East and West Pacific, the Caribbean, and Greater Atlantic with respect to conservation amidst climatic changes.
