Effect of Habitat Deterioration on Population Dynamics and Extinction Risks in a Previously Common Perennial

Article Abstract:

The effects of mowing/grazing and nitrogen enrichment were observed on the perennial herb Primula veris in experimental plots. Decreased population growth rates and high mortality rates were found under nitrogen enrichment. Mowing encouraged flowering stages, reduced seedling establishment and decreased germination, while the opposite was found under grazing.

Exploring Population Dynamics Patterns in a Rare Fish, Zingel asper, through Capture-Mark-Recapture Methods

Article Abstract:

The article emphasizes the importance of nonmigratory fish dispersal in capture-mark-recapture studies, using Zingel asper populations in France's Rhone River basin as an example. Mechanisms that could affect fish population persistence, such as low survival and stochastic recruitment, are revealed.
