Effect of restrictive harvest regulations on survival and recovery rates of American black ducks

Article Abstract:

The mean survival and recovery rates of American black ducks were estimated during 1950-66, 1967-82 and 1983-93 to determine the effects of changes in hunting regulations on harvest and survival rates. Estimated mean survival rates increased from the first to the second period. Limited evidence existed for increases in survival rates from the second to the third period for immature males. Changes in survival and recovery rates of black ducks banded postseason were similar to those of adults banded preseason.

Goals and strategies for estimating trends in landbird abundance

Article Abstract:

Standards for monitoring the landbird populations are recommended which monitor only about 42% of the species with the North American Breeding Bird Survey data (BBS) and similar other programs. Results indicate the quantitative goal for long-term landbird monitoring programs.
