Effects of elevated atmospheric carbon dioxide on insect-plant interactions

Article Abstract:

Research presented concerns the ability of herbivorous insects to adapt to increased levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide expected in the 21st century. Topics discussed include possible species-specific insect extinctions, the impact to individual plant-insect systems, and the need for increased studies and ecosystem conservation.

Local Species Richness of Leaf-Chewing Insects Feeding on Woody Plants from One Hectare of a Lowland Rainforest

Article Abstract:

Research on 940 leaf-chewing insect species in Papua New Guinea is presented, delineating ratios of insect species to host plant species, quantifying species richness, and providing spatial scale analysis. An assessment of taxon-to-taxon ratios for geographic scale extrapolations is also included.

Using Gall Wasps on Oaks to Test Broad Ecological Concepts

Article Abstract:

Ecological concepts tested focused on insect species richness, plant architecture, and leaf phytochemical patterns. Findings show that caution should be used in applying theories to a narrow range of species.
