Effects of habitat management for ducks on target and nontarget species

Article Abstract:

A study hypothesized that due to their flagship and umbrella characteristics, upland-nesting ducks might be effective surrogate species for songbird and shorebird conservation in the dry mixed-grass prairie. However, no consistently similar responses to these habitat characteristics among ducks, songbirds and shorebirds found, revealed that despite their conceptual appeal, ducks were unlikely to be good surrogate species for avian conservation in the dry mixed-grass prairie.

Survival of scaup ducklings in the boreal forest of Alaska

Article Abstract:

The duckling survival of lesser and greater scaup at Minto Flats, Alaska is studied during 2002-2003 and survival of scaup broods with ducklings is monitored. Daily Survival Rate (DSR) of ducklings varies between years and is positively related to female body condition and duckling age.

Nest survival of scaup and other ducks in the boreal forest of Alaska

Article Abstract:

The variation in nest survival of lesser scaup, greater scaup, and other common duck species at Minto Flats, Alaska were estimated. Daily survival probability of scaup nests, and nests of all other duck species, varied with year, date, and nest habitat.
