Effects of postfire snag removal on breeding birds of Western Labrador

Article Abstract:

The management of snag-forests can be problematic particularly when they are rapidly harvested for the reclamation of lost timber as this can adversely affect snag-dependent wildlife. The ecological importance of snag forests makes it imperative that salvage-logging effects are correctly assessed and a study experimented with three intensities of snag removal in western Labrador, Canada with a view to guiding forest managers in salvage-logging in snag-forests.

Habitat-suitability models for cavity-nesting birds in a postfire landscape

Article Abstract:

A study of the habitat of cavity-nesting birds is conducted to enable land managers to take timely decisions regarding postfire timber harvest and other activities. Suggestions are given as to how the land managers can have minimal impacts on the cavity-nesting bird habitats.
