Emergence of individual recognition in young macaques

Article Abstract:

The development of infant Barbary macaque responses to maternal calls is investigated under the assumption that recognition of the mother is one of the tasks that infants should master. The findings suggest that the developmental trajectories in the domain of comprehensive learning may be flexible, as infant responses may depend on the salience

Regulation of incubation shifts near hatching by giant petrels: a timed mechanism, embryonic signalling or food availability?

Article Abstract:

A mechanism is proposed to explain endogenous timing, a response to embryo signals or a seasonal increase in food availability. The findings indicate that parents use embryo signals for a fine-tuning synchronization of the internal timer to the natural variability in the length of the incubation period.

Relatedness and the evolution of conspecific brood parasitism: parameterizing a model with data for a precocial species

Article Abstract:

A field data is used to parameterize a model for the common goldeneye, a precocial hole-nesting species in which conspecific brood parasitism frequently occurs. The conclusion states that the model is conservative enough in rejecting relatedness and kin selection of brood parasitism in the species.
