Environmental characteristics associated with the occurrence of avian botulism in wetlands of a northern California refuge

Article Abstract:

Research undertaken at Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge near Willows, CA, into the environmental conditions that prompt outbreaks of avian botulism indicates that invertebrates could play a role in initiating botulism outbreaks by acting as a means of toxin transfer. No link was found between dissolved oxygen, percent organic matter and water depth and the initiation of botulism outbreaks. It was found that shallow water is not a prerequisite to a botulism outbreak, and that dissolved oxygen is not predictive of an outbreak.

Circadian activity patterns of Canada lynx in western Montana

Article Abstract:

A study to understand Canadian lynx's activity pattern during winter and summer in western Montana reveals that during summer, male lynx exhibited a crepuscular activity pattern, whereas females with kittens remained active and during winter both species were active. Results showed no evidence that predation risk drove lynx activity patterns.
