Environmental controls on the geographic distribution of zooplankton diversity

Article Abstract:

Assemblages of planktic foraminifera from surface sediments were used to test the proposed explanations for the geographic distribution of zooplankton diversity. It was found that sea-surface temperature measured by satellite explains almost 90% of the geographic variation in planktic foraminiferal diversity in the Atlantic Ocean. It is possible that the geographic variations in zooplankton diversity could be directly controlled by the physical structure of the near-surface ocean.

Biodiversity inventories, indicator taxa and effects of habitat modification in tropical forest

Article Abstract:

A taxonomically diverse inventory on the impact of tropical forest modification is reported, following examinations of eight animal groups in the Mbalmayo Forest Reserve in south-central Cameroon. Species richness was found to fall with increasing disturbance, but no group acted as a good indicator taxon for changes in the species richness of other groups.
